We then use our latest technology to drain their life force. While their life force is being drained, pain killers are being pumped into them in order to minimise their suffering.

Being an intergalactic species we live in multiple planets, some of which are not habitable. Therefore we require the extra energy to create and modify the environment so that it is conducive to life.
